Even God Rested
Genesis 2:2. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.
Our lives are all crazy and hectic and we always focus on everything but one thing…rest.
This year I took 4 total weeks of vacation from work. I have never taken so much personal time before in my life other than the 8 weeks after I had back surgery, and, let me tell you, that was NOT relaxing OR fun.
Two weeks ago I was in Peru doing missions work. I have a feeling that missions work is what God is eventually calling me toward permanently so this was such a blessing and beautiful. I had no phone, very little contact with anyone I know, and hardly a dollar to my name.
Last week was spent working from home to simply clear emails and get ready for the family trip.
And yesterday, my kids and I packed up in a 32′ rented RV and started driving. We are taking 2 weeks and traveling around the country. Niagara, Ontario, Chicago, Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands, Wall, Yellowstone, Salt Lake City, the Grand Canyon, the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, and then home.
During this time I plan very little computer work or play (other than to download the thousands of pictures that my kids and I take this whole time). I am simply going to…dare I say it…relax.
Even God relaxed. He worked real hard to make this universe that He spent the seventh day resting.
This is my seventh day. Granted it will be two weeks long, but this is going to be my day of rest.
If you all think about it, pray for us. I’ve never driven anything much bigger than my Prius so a 32′ RV is a little intimidating. But God’s got this. He is going to take care of us through this trip and, after, my kids and I will be even closer.
And THAT is what this trip is all about.
Enjoy the RV trip and the time with the kids.
