The View from the Top
Psalm 89:12 – The north and the south, You have created them; Tabor and Hermon shout for joy at Your name.
I’ve been posting my blog a few days late for the past few weeks. This week I have good reason. I was climbing a mountain.
Ok, well, it was a hike to the top with a rock scramble in the middle which required some minor climbing skills. So I am going to tell you that I went rock climbing because we guys love to exaggerate, especially if something seems dangerous or awesome.
But when we got to the top of the mountain, it was absolutely breathtaking.
I have done this hike many times before and each time I can’t help but marvel at how beautiful it is from the top of the mountain.
I tend to think that long ago, when someone started one of those mega-corporations or mega-churches out there that they thought it would all be “top of the mountain” views when they got to the top of their industry mountain. Unfortunately, that is rarely the case.
When you get to the top of a natural mountain, there are never any losers in it. Everyone wins. You come away from a mountaintop experience truly understanding that grandeur of God’s creativity and power. When you climb to the top of the corporate mountain, there are people always left losing. Whether it were the other people who were in line for the same promotion you got or the other companies that you had to beat out in order to be at the top of the mountain, there are people hurt along the way.
Now I want you to think about something else.
How many times in this life have you heard someone say, “I wish I was God.”
There are entire religions based around believing that you are a god or you are god.
As I was at the top of the mountain, looking over God’s creation, I started to imagine what God sees when He is in His throne room looking over us.
Psalm 90:2 – Before the mountains were born Or You gave birth to the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
Do you think it is all beautiful, like this?
Or do you think it is more like this?
Honestly, I would never want to be God. I know how much my own struggles affect me. I can only imagine how much the struggles of the world would affect me. But I believe that God has a desire to see something when He looks at us.
He already sees all the destruction that we humans have done to each other. And since He gives us free will, He isn’t going stop us from making stupid errors in judgment. But I believe He wants to see us coming together to help each other. There comes a point that we simply come to that requires us just to love one another. We can choose to ignore it, as much of the world does. But God’s wants us at that point.
1 Peter 4:8 – Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.
I believe THIS is what He wants to see when He looks upon humanity.
